The Composer Assistance Program (CAP) makes direct assistance available to composers to help them realize their music in performance, and in some cases, on a recording. CAP grants are project-based, so there must be a specific work (or works) associated with the grant proposal. There must also be a specific event associated with the work, such as a performance, reading, or recording. The American Music Center awards a total of approximately $80,000 annually to composers through this program. The maximum one-time grant is $5000. Most grants are between $1000 and $2000. Grants to a single composer are limited to a total of $10,000 during that composer's lifetime. Please check the AMC website for new guidelines and submit entries to:

The New West Electro-Acoustic Music Organization (NWEAMO) announces a call for works. NWEAMO is an all volunteer, non-profit 501 (c)3 organization dedicated to the promotion of music that involves the creative use of computers and electronics, and to building a diverse community among electro-acoustic composers throughout the world. We embrace all styles of electronic music including those utilizing cutting-edge composition and synthesis programs such as Max/MSP, Super Collider, and Csound; rock and pop music; Music Concrete and sound collage; performance art and multimedia events; ambient music and sound installations; and improvised and process music. NWEAMO is holding festival concerts in San Diego, New York, Boulder, and Mexico in 2007. We are trying to reach as many people as possible this year as we expand our festival internationally. We invite you to participate in our annual celebration of creativity. This is an opportunity to meet with fellow composers and performers who are dedicated to exploring the edges of aesthetics, cognition, and international culture through electro-acoustic music. There is a $15 upfront submission fee per work. This goes to support the festival in general. Selected composers must attend the cities in which their work is performed. Jukebox selections-composers of selected 2-channel tape-only works, with no performance element, are not required to attend. Performers must be provided by applicant. Works with a visual element (live musicians/video/installations/dance/unusual lighting, etc.) will be favored. We welcome 2-channel tape works, and generally will present these in an ancillary listening booth, aka Jukebox. In order to present 6-7 works per concert we are looking for works of approximately 10 minutes in duration. This is not a firm restriction, but generally works at or less than 10 minutes will be favored. All common compressed formats (audio and video) are acceptable. Please do not submit full-bandwidth pieces. Please submit a 2-channel version for adjudication. NWEAMO will support 5.1- and 4-channel works. The file size is 20 MB maximum. Generally, NWEAMO cannot provide funds for travel, accommodation, performance fees, etc. Small honorariums may be available, depending on the overall costs of the festival, but these will not come close to covering the costs of attending.
