Here are several files of Beverly Grigsby's compositions. The size is listed next to each file for downloading. You do not require any additional plug-ins, but you will need an audio card if you have a PC or Sound Manager if you have a Mac (this comes standard if you own a Power Mac). Also, there are a couple of videos here. You will need QuickTime for PC or Mac. You can download the latest version (Mac or PC) from: http://quicktime.apple.com/.
Shakti I was composed for flute and tape. You will hear non-western pitch patterns, and in particular pentatonic scales. Julia Larson is the performer in this snippet (she is a professor at Ball State University, Muncie, IN). The file is 1.2M, 8-bit mono, AIFF format.
Shakti II was composed for soprano and tape. The pictures in the background (which may actually be too small to recognize) are from Hieronymous Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights." Deborah Kavasch is the soprano in this recording (she is a professor at California State University-Stanislaus). The file is 4M, QuickTime format, so you may have to leave lots of download time.
Shakti III is the third in Beverly's Shakti cycle (there are others coming...). This one was composed for clarinet, tabla and tape. In this performance, Caroline Hartig is playing clarinet and George Wolfe is playing tabla (both are professors at Ball State University, Muncie, IN). The file is 1.3M, 8-bit mono, AIFF format.
The Vision of St. Joan is one of Beverly's operas. This is a monologue for soprano and tape. The opera tells the story of Joan of Arc and her vision in the woods. Deborah Kavasch is the soprano in this particular performance. The file is 5M, QuickTime format.
