Sound software for windows
We reccommend GoldWave and/or CoolEdit as basic tools for the class for Windows users.
GoldWave
Sound editor software. There is shareware version of the GoldWave digital audio editor. The downloadable demo version is fully functional, but you are required to pay for it if you decide to keep it. The cost is $40. See the website for details.
The website is here:
Cool Edit
There is a download page here:
http://www.syntrillium.com/download/
Some of the functions will not work on the free version, but you can disable and enable two functions each time you use it. Cool Edit is more or less the standard Windows sound editor, and the cheaper version is quite functional and probably more than you'll ever need to use in the class.
ProTools for Windows
There is demo version on http://www.digidesign.com/. Warning, this program, though powerful and very useful, has a reputation for being buggy and crashy on Windows. ProTools is not so much an editor, as a multi-track recording and post-production/mixing tool.
