Q: I'm having trouble downloading Flash 5.  Please help...

1)  First, open your web brower, and go to http://129.170.95.229
You should see something like this:
---------------
Flash 5 for the Mac
Flash 5 for the PC
Flash MX (30 Day Trial)
---------------

2) Click on the appropriate link (Mac or PC) to download the installer to your computer for Flash 5.  Don't worry about Flash MX at this point.  This may take a little while because the files are several hundred megabytes.

3) Hopefully, your computer has automatically "unstuffed" or "unzipped" this file for you.  You should now see a folder with 8 or so items in it.

4) In this folder, look for "Flash 5 Installer".  I believe if you are on a PC, this file is called "Setup.exe"

5) Double click on this and it should walk you through the installation. If it asks you for a serial number, type in FLM500-52074-28267-23434 for the Mac, or FLW500-59175-79209-92517 for a PC.


Q: How do you unzip a file?

All you PC users out there feel free to correct me, but I'm told Winzip is on your PC if you got it from Dartmouth.  If not, you can get this shareware from http://www.winzip.com/getsite.cgi?winzip81.exe

I'm assuming that if you just double-click on the zip file, it will launch the proper program and unzip itself.  Once again, a needless technological complication that we just have to deal with. =)

Mac users: double click the Flash5(Mac).sit, and it should expand for you.


Q: How do I get Cute FTP (for windows) (thanks kimberly!)

Here is the link to download a free trial version of cuteFTP 4.2.  unfortunately, since i dowloaded my copy (version 3.0), they've changed the evaluation program and it now only works for 30 days after installation.  it costs $39.95 to purchase the program.
